Beach Themed Save the Date Cards

Beach themed save the date cards - promise your nearest and dearest a day full of sunshine and great memories, hopefully without the humidity. Here in Virginia Beach, weddings by the sea just got a little more expensive. Virginia's largest resort city recently began charging $200 for the privilege of hosting your families and exchanging your vows on our beautiful white beaches. Keep in mind anything you do here or at any beach on the east coast, Memorial Day to Labor will cost you more. That oceanfront room that goes for $179 a night in July will be available in October for less than half.

Day of the Dead Wedding Stamps

Day of the Dead, why does it fascinate? It's all about love and loyalty.  A Mexican ritual going back as far 3,000 years ago,  honors and celebrates deceased loved ones. How great to be remembered so long after you're gone. The Spaniards must have thought it a little bit creeepy, and after conquering Mexico, and they tried to eliminate it with no success. These colorful Day of the Dead wedding stamps reflect the joyful belief of happily married life now and forever.

Fall Wedding Bouquets

Fall wedding bouquets are made of the loveliest flowers available September through November: sunflowers, marigolds, dahlias, daisies, carnations and cockscomb. And crimson roses with enchanting names such as Warm Welcome, Scent to Remember, Tequila Sunrise and Remember Me.

Regional Wedding Favors

Regional wedding favors - very affordable little thank you gifts (courtesy of Martha Stewart) that reflect the unique charm of the city or state you call home. What makes my hometown of Virginia Beach a favorite family vacation destination between Memorial Day and Labor Day every year? Martha suggests it may be the roasted peanuts. Having lived here for over twenty years, I say salt water taffy is a much better choice. Sold all along the boardwalk - at a low price every tourist can afford (about three dollars a box) - they are individually wrapped in assorted flavors and would make charming wedding favors from Southeastern Virginia and our beautiful three mile beach.

Gold and Ivory Wedding Cakes

Gold and ivory wedding cakes - each one of these more beautiful than the next. Gold metallic layers look lovely surrounded by pale peach and pink garden roses. Gold edible pearls make a cake appear rich and radiant. Metallic gold icing dripping down the sides of a tall white layer cake. No way I would take a knife to something so exquisite. Your guests will be looking for something sweet to follow a night of Bacardi and Tenderloin of Beef. Serve them slices from a lightly decorated sheet cake while they feast their eyes on one of these breathtakingly beautiful gold wedding cakes.

Flower Girl Pomanders

A beautifully crafted flower girl pomander - for your beach themed wedding. This one is a wooden vine sphere holding seashells and a large starfish resting on a bed of naturally preserved green moss. This "kissing ball" measures 6 inches in diameter with a six inch ribbon loop. Natural jute twine can be substituted for the ribbon for a more rustic look. Update: this handcrafted pomander was once available at Etsy for $29.00. The seller has stopped production on this item. Today I found honeysuckle grapevine (15 feet) at Save On Crafts (online) under $10. There's no reason you or I couldn't create a pomander every bit as lovely as the one you see here.

Vintage Style Wedding Birdcages

Every time I see a vintage style wedding birdcage on Pinterest, it looks nothing like this. Often I find white metal cages draped in faux pearls, filled with pale green Spanish moss and pink garden roses. And wrapped in white lace and tied with cream satin ribbon. As predictable as my tight fitting swimsuit the first week of June. The randomness of these colorful flowers fills my heart with joy. I want to park my happy self here under the noon day sun and lift my glass of watermelon sangria in warm appreciation to the bride and her groom for making this day so festive and fun.

Vintage Ads Featuring Married Women

Vintage ads featuring married women - don't even look unless you want a scary blast from a male-dominated past. The world of advertisement catered to men in a way that would be unthinkable today. Check out these hilarious advertising gimmicks from the 1940s and “fabulous” 50s. Grandma and her friends just couldn’t catch a break. Not only were they expected to be perky and cute, do housework in their high heels and fall in love with common household cleaners and appliances, they had to maintain those cherry red lips and an unforgiving 22-inch waist. Steady yourself - the last two black and white vintage ads feature a world you won't soon forget.

Starfish Inspired Wedding Bouquet

A stunning starfish inspired wedding bouquet. I've seen a beach themed bouquet like this on Etsy for $90.00. Ouch! But look closely and you'll recognize many of these same affordable silk flowers (mostly roses and stephanotis with faux pearl centers) from Michael's and A.C. Moore's. And on Amazon today I found a set of 6 brown sugar starfish (2 or 4 inch size) for less than $10. You can purchase an abundance of these items and play around until you get it just right. Or make a bridal shower game of it and see who can create the best looking beach bouquet.
